2027 eclipse planner

When should you book an eclipse trip?

A practical booking timeline that prioritizes flexibility rather than locking your entire trip to one field months ahead.

12–9 months out

Choose the country or broad region. Compare cancellation terms before price alone. Eclipse travel creates concentrated demand, so the most useful early purchase is usually a flexible base, not a non-refundable viewing package.

9–6 months out

Secure the transport pieces that are hardest to replace. If you plan to drive on eclipse morning, understand rental rules, fuel or charging availability and whether your accommodation permits a very early departure.

6–2 months out

Build Plan B and Plan C. They should be reachable alternatives that remain inside totality and expose you to meaningfully different cloud or terrain risk.

Final month

Re-check entry requirements, local event notices, road restrictions and your eclipse glasses. Do not wait until eclipse morning to discover that a planned road, site or parking area is restricted.

Final 8–9 days

Short-range forecast guidance becomes relevant. TotalityTrip's MET Norway module is designed to activate automatically when August 2 enters the available forecast horizon.

Booking principle: spend early money on flexibility; spend late attention on weather.
