2027 eclipse planner

What to pack for the 2027 eclipse

A resilient eclipse kit is mostly ordinary travel gear plus safe solar viewing protection and a few items that help when roads, heat or connectivity become difficult.

Non-negotiable viewing gear

  • Safe eclipse glasses or handheld viewers that comply with the applicable ISO 12312-2 standard.
  • Proper front-mounted solar filters for any camera, binoculars or telescope used on the Sun.
  • A protective case so filters are not scratched or bent in luggage.

Heat and comfort

  • More drinking water than you expect to need.
  • Sun protection, hat, light clothing and shade where appropriate.
  • Any medication you may need if transport is delayed.

Mobility kit

  • Offline maps and screenshots of Plan A, B and C.
  • Car charger or power bank.
  • Fuel/charging plan that does not depend on the last station before the viewing site.
  • Paper copy of essential booking and contact details.

Optional photography kit

Keep photography secondary to safe viewing. Test the setup before the trip and never point unfiltered optics at the bright Sun.
